A northern bank, on purpose

Chartered in Yellowknife in 1974, and headquartered here ever since.

Who we are

Founded because no one else would

In 1974, seven families and two mining cooperatives in Yellowknife could not get an operating line from a southern bank. The distances were too great, the seasons too irregular, the market too small to bother with. So they chartered their own institution.

52 years later, Aurora Trust Bank holds deposits for more than 48,000 households and enterprises across the territories and the western provinces. We have grown, but the reason we exist has not changed: capital raised in the North should be available to the North.

We remain headquartered at Aurora Trust Tower in Yellowknife, and we intend to stay.

What we hold to

Four commitments, unchanged since 1974

Deposits stay north

Money entrusted to us is lent back into the communities it came from, not exported to a distant balance sheet.

Nobody is too remote

A fly-in community gets the same products, the same rates and the same service as our head office counter.

Plain terms

Our agreements are written to be read. If a fee exists, it is on the page before you sign.

Always reachable

A 24/7 toll-free line and a fraud desk that answers at three in the morning, because that is when it matters.
